For the second year in a row, the Alliance High School Girls' Aviator Tennis Team is Eastern Buckeye Conference Champions. The team officially captured the league title after defeating the Marlington Dukes 4-1 on Monday, September 25. Coach Steve Cabassa and the girls closed the regular season with a 17-4 overall record and were undefeated in EBC play.
When asked about their second league title in as many years, Coach Cabassa said, " I am so proud of the girls' hard work and dedication over the past few years. We had a great group of girls that supported and helped one another. Our seniors were true leaders and really pushed the entire team to play better. Winning the EBC the last two years is huge for our program and is a great example that hard work does pay off. This program had never won a league title before and has now experienced winning seasons for the past five years in a row and two league titles."
The Aviators were lead by senior Jillian Lohnes. Jillian was named captain for each of the girls' championship seasons. While reflecting on the past two seasons Jiliian said, "Winning another championship for Alliance means so much to our team because it shows and reminds us of all the hard work we’ve put in for the past two years. All the early mornings and late nights paid off and we’re exited to see two titles on our banner!"
The Aviators start postseason play this coming week. On Tuesday, October 3rd the Sectional Tournament will begin at the College of Wooster at 8:45 AM. Good luck ladies! Way to Rep that A!
