Sean Weatherspoon

ALLIANCE, OHIO – (May 17, 2022) – The Alliance City Schools Board of Education approved the hiring of Sean Weatherspoon as the Alliance Aviators next head boys basketball coach at the regular meeting held Tuesday evening. Weatherspoon will take the place of Larry Kukura who stepped down from the position after a successful 17 seasons.

 â€śWe quickly became excited about Sean as a potential coach when we learned about his strong Stark County roots and basketball background. His coaching experiences thus far have been filled with high expectations, positive coach-player relationships and positive outcomes,” said Rob Gress, superintendent. “His core values for his players align with the district’s values of developing students who are leaders, high performers and caring citizens.We’re proud to have him on the Aviator team and can’t wait to see the impact he will have on our boys basketball program and school community in the coming years.”

Weatherspoon will come to Alliance after serving as the head varsity basketball coach at Maple Heights High School since 2019. He has ten years experience coaching basketball at the high school level including being the JV/varsity assistant coach then head JV basketball coach at Canton Mckinley from 2012-2015, serving as head varsity assistant coach at Beachwood High School from 2016-2018 and serving as head JV coach/varsity assistant basketball coach at Euclid High School from 2018-2019.

“I would like to thank Superintendent Gress, Mr. Jackson, Mrs. Woodford, Mr. Schott, Mr. Reich, the Alliance Board of Education and the rest of the administration for believing in my vision and providing me this opportunity to lead this storied program,” Weatherspoon said. “I look forward to continuing the successful tradition on and off the floor that Alliance High School has had thus far. I’m excited to get started and meet the players, parents and the Alliance community. Go Aviators!”

Weatherspoon’s teaching duties are yet to be finalized, but he will be working with students at Alliance Middle School.

He attended Bluefield State College where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education in 2012. Weatherspoon later attended Ashford University to receive his Master’s of Education in educational technology leadership.
